My 5 top tips for a solid morning ritual.
A morning ritual or routine can be as little as 30 minutes or as long as 3 hours. The most important part is you stick to it. So creating a realistic ritual one that is manageable but also effective is key.
We are all unique individuals going through our own experience so some of these tips might not work for you and some of them might. This is just to give you an idea and hopefully inspire you to get into the swing of a routine so you can breeze through this busy holiday season with grace and joy, hopefully setting yourself up for an incredible 2019!
**Charge all electronics overnight on airplane mode, in any room other then your bedroom (or wherever you sleep at night)
Stay away from your phone and laptop/PC until your working day officially starts, ie; after your morning ritual. This should ideally be anywhere between 30 minutes - 2 hours of waking up. This gives yourself some time to really listen to what your body needs without any distractions from the outside/social media world.
Get out into nature, whether this is your back garden, sitting on a park bench, a beachside stroll or a hike in the mountains. A simple 5 minute meditation or mindful breathing exercise will clear your head and create space for a productive day ahead.
Drink warm lemon water as soon as you get up. Boil the kettle, squeeze that lemon and make sure you drink at least 500ml of this delicious warming drink. This is an excellent way to rehydrate after at least 6-8 hours of no liquids. Warm water also flushes out the digestive system, and improves the function of the liver and lymph system improving digestion throughout the day. So get drinking!
Move- whether that means 15 minutes of stretching in bed, walking your beloved hound or getting your power yoga/gym workout in. For me it’s walking my dogs for at least 20 minutes which is usually followed by a 45-60 minute morning yoga sequence.
Drink a green juice- this is a fairly new one for me, but one that I am absolutely loving instead of my usual cuppa (coffee). I have found I have more energy and feel a lot more grounded when I start my day with a green juice. It is alkalising and nutritious, allowing your body to absorb all the goodness while giving your digestive system a break first thing in the morning. If you really need your coffee, make sure you have it at least 1 hour after your green juice. I have added in a simple recipe below if you don’t know where to start.
GREEN JUICE RECIPE
4 celery stalks
2 green or red apples
3cm piece of ginger
6 kale or swiss chard spinach leaves
Wash all the ingredients and get juicing!
I usually add the same amount of water as there is juice. This is up to you.
